Green Spaces

With its tree lined streets and numerous open spaces, Chiswick is one of the greenest areas of London.

Not particularly worth a special visit, but contributing to Chiswick’s character are Acton Green Common (surprisingly, not in Acton but opposite Turnham Green tube station), Turnham Green (equally surprisingly, not near Turnham Green tube but off Chiswick High Road), and Chiswick Common, just south of Acton Green Common.

Four green spaces. The first is a must see, and the second is possibly unique in London. The next two are very good, particularly if you have children.

Chiswick House and Gardens

65 acres of gardens which are free to enter and comprise woodland, formal gardens, a lake, a kitchen garden, and a Grade 1-listed conservatory.

Dukes Meadows

On the river, just west of Chiswick Pier. An open space where picnics are often enjoyed in the summer. In the north-east corner there is an excellent children’s play area with a café.

Gunnersbury Triangle

Opposite Chiswick Park tube station, a woodland nature reserve with ponds and grassland areas. Birds and small mammals enjoy the birch and willow while there are footpaths for visitors.

Ravenscourt Park

On the borders of Chiswick and Hammersmith. Several different areas in different styles, and good children’s play areas.
